Trail Description
This trek begins with the mild well maintained Westside Rd. Beginning at Shasta Dam Westside Rd. guides you along the western shoreline of Lake Shasta. Though the challenge is a minimum here, the sights are plentiful. Keep watch out for things like abandoned mines, waterfalls, creek crossings, and many beautiful vistas of Lake Shasta and the Siskiyous.
For about 15 miles you will travel Westside Rd. while ascending from lake level to the ridges above. At approximately 15 miles you will arrive at the fork to Rd.35. Turn right on 35 to make the trip to Wild Cow Mountain. This four mile section of trail will be a bit more challenging. The trail begins with a steep descent from one ridge followed quickly with a climb to the Wild Cow Ridge. This climb was the day’s most challenging obstacle. What you get is a 40 % grade on loose rocky trail. Don’t stop or you’re done for! Once over the hill, Trail 35 follows a narrow ridge over a handful of fun hillclimbs to the Wild Cow Mountain and the roads dead ends.
Season
