Trail Description

This is a lesser known trail that is tucked right in the middle of some other popular trails. On the surface, the trail is moderatly challenging at best. It offers an infrequently traveled road that his rutted and can be muddy in the rain with great views of Dahaven Gulch down below. This is passable by any high clearance SUV.

There are numerous rock piles to maneuver through. All of these obstacles are optional and can be as challenging as you like.

Directions

Take I5 to Red Bluff which is about 120 miles north of Sacramento. Take the Hwy 36/Antelope exit and turn right (east). Take Antelop about one mile until you see the Hwy 36 exit towards Lassen. Take Hwy 36 to Paynes Creek, about 15 miles. Exit right at Paynes Creek on Plum Creek Road. Drive 5.6 miles and look for the dirt road on the right. Drive 2.2 miles and turn right at the T which is Hogsback Rd. Drive 3.4 miles and look for the trail head on the right. It is labeled. The trail makes an 8 mile loop and connects back with Hogsback. You can continue west on Hogsback for 12 miles when it turns back into pavement and then right back into Red Bluff. Turn right on Hwy 99/Antelope to return to the I-5.
